Edible Bridport: Growing Strong

It’s been a fruitful summer for Edible Bridport.

Instead of our usual meet up on the third Saturday of the month we are teaming up with the Bridport Seed Library for the seed saving workshop:

It has been a busy and fruitful summer for Edible Bridport, with exciting new projects, generous community support, and big plans ahead.

Thanks to an NGS grant, a wonderful new growing space has been created opposite St Cecilia's allotments — a long verge featuring planters of annual vegetables, a foragers' garden of fruit and nut trees, and a no-dig growing area. A wild pond, bench area and storage shed are in the works, and community volunteers are warmly needed to help bring it all to life.

A £1,000 donation from the Vintage Market traders at St Michael's Trading Estate will extend the planting of free herbs and vegetables around the estate — a wonderfully generous act of community spirit. Meanwhile, a Wessex Water grant of £1,991 for water catchment is also on its way.

And in a heartwarming story, local bus drivers have been watering Edible Bridport's planters during their breaks. Their quiet dedication says everything about what this project means to people.

Edible Bridport's drop-in volunteer sessions run every third Saturday at BYCC, 11am–12 noon. But note the next one come a week later - 26th September — do come along, say hello and find out more.
