Edible Bridport: Growing Strong

Instead of our usual meet up on the third Saturday of the month we are teaming up with the Bridport Seed Library for the seed saving workshop:

It has been a busy and fruitful summer for Edible Bridport, with exciting new projects, generous community support, and big plans ahead.

Thanks to an NGS grant, a wonderful new growing space has been created opposite St Cecilia's allotments — a long verge featuring planters of annual vegetables, a foragers' garden of fruit and nut trees, and a no-dig growing area. A wild pond, bench area and storage shed are in the works. Our lovely volunteers have been working so hard to bring it all to life.

A £1,000 donation from the Bridport Vintage Market traders at St Michael's Trading Estate will extend the planting of free herbs and vegetables around the estate — a wonderfully generous act of community spirit. Meanwhile, a Wessex Water grant of £1,991 for water catchment is also on its way.

And, in a heartwarming story, local bus drivers have been watering Edible Bridport's planters during their breaks. Their quiet dedication says everything about what this project means to people.

Edible Bridport's drop-in volunteer sessions run every third Saturday at BYCC, 11am–12 noon.
