COOK

BFM brings people together over cooking and shared meals, from monthly Nosh & Natter evenings to Pop-Up Kitchens at the Community Food Stall. Through hands-on workshops, volunteer opportunities, and catering for local groups, we teach cooking skills, promote healthy eating, and help people become food ambassadors in their communities.

NOSH & NATTER

We love cooking and eating together!

BFM serves up a delicious veggie feast with locally sourced ingredients for its members at least once a month at our Nosh & Natter evenings.

Our ‘Chirpy Choppers’ are a growing group of volunteers who just love to prepare food and get involved in cooking together. We now can’t all fit into the kitchen!

POP-UP KITCHENS

BFM runs regular ‘Pop Up Kitchens’ and simple cooking activities at the weekly Bridport Community Food Stall (aka Glut Stall).

Activities are seasonal and have included:

Juicing grapes – no added sugar

Blackcurrant cordial

Tomato chutney and cucumber relish

Staffordshire Oat cakes with home-made ranch beans

Lentil wraps with fillings

Veggie soup with bread

Squash soup

Pancakes with toppings

"As a single mum and a 4-year-old, I live on a very low income; I am very pleased to try out the things I have tasted when I get home. We need parent and toddler sessions where it is fun for all"

— Simon

I always come early to the glut stall because I have very little money. My wife is restricted to the home so I cook a lot at home. I enjoy the social side of queuing and now I help carry in the boxes every week. I loved the squash soup.”

Our next step is to recruit community catalysts from our regular attendees at the Food Stall to encourage participation in ‘Good Food’ workshops on a whole variety of cooking skills: cooking on a budget, eating seasonally and making the most of what you have in the fridge.

CATERING FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS

This includes collaborations with Bridport Youth and Community Centre to cater for their events such as ‘Forget Me Not’ for people living with Dementia, and a networking event for Local Environment Groups supported by the CoOp.

TRAINING FOR COMMUNITY COOKS

BFM has signposted members and volunteers who help with food preparation to participate in cooking skills training run by  Friendly Food Club, where they have gained Level 2 Food Hygiene.
