CASE STUDY

Pop-Up Kitchens at Bridport Community Food Stall

Bridport Food Matters runs Pop-Up Kitchens alongside the weekly Community Food Stall to tackle food insecurity, isolation, and lack of cooking confidence. Volunteers lead hands-on, seasonal cooking sessions using fresh, local ingredients, teaching simple, nutritious meals while participants take food home and learn new skills. Over six months, attendance has grown steadily, with regulars reporting increased confidence, healthier cooking habits, and stronger connections with the community. The project has helped the stall join the national Community Fridge network, supported participants onto cooking skills training, and created a pathway for “Good Food Catalysts” to inspire others—building a more resilient, food-savvy Bridport

POLICY

Bridport Food Matters collaborated with Bridport Town Council and the Landworkers’ Alliance (LWA) to gather data and shape actions on local food supply, contributing to the Bridport Food Security Plan as part of the town’s response to the climate and ecological emergency. BFM was named as one of the key organisations to deliver activities under the plan.

BFM and Rebecca Laughton of LWA also met with our local MP to advocate for increased horticultural production in Dorset and nationally, leading to Edward Morello MP hosting the UK’s first Alliance of Fruit and Vegetable Growers and pledging to attend the launch of BFM’s Nourish Food Hub in due course.
