As part of the Edible Garden team we grow virtually all food from seeds. Our sources vary but we like to buy ones in the South West as we have similar climate and soil. Recently i planted a packet of cucumber seeds called Magnum F1. They come from Organic Catalogue.com. So I understand that heritage seeds (ie not F1) are better to use because then it is possible to save seeds at the end of the season, keep them and germinate in the next year. So why would an organic catalogue be selling F1 kinds? Is it because F1 hybrid’s can give you a better plant because of mixing two varieties which make for better characteristics? Should i not be using F!’s ever? I would love other people’s opinion .
